Rebuilding system is ok
I rebuild my task management system. Again. But not from scratch and intentionally.
Before there was Backlog Projects and Active Projects. Now there are only Backlog Projects and special Flow project to combine all next steps.
Why I do that? Because my rhythm is changed last week or two. Projects organization has lost its meaning, I just needed a list of tasks before vacation. Was system simple – yes. Is it still simple – yes.
It’s no big deal, during restructuring I also reviewed all my projects, deleted many stale or not so important tasks. Any time I can switch back. And it’s ok, it’s the truth about myself that I accepted – I need different systems, there is no perfect, set up once workflow for me.
I think most apps miss that users have different modes. Sometimes it’s chilly and more personal oriented, sometimes it’s one-project rush or multiple fast but different projects. What do you see first – most urgent tasks or full picture? It matters.
Not each workflow can perfectly handle all those modes. I remember only one app, that allow you to choose different workflows – Amazing Marvin. Now it’s a total different app and I can’t recall whether the choice permanent. Some apps like Todoist allow you to configure smart filters and it can be helpful to work in different mode, but this is not a total change – it’s just filter within already configured structure.
So rebuilding system is ok, it’s not a failure. Most important is to trust the system you build and really do that shit.
