Subscribe, Accumulate, Delete, Repeat

Recently I made a big digital decluttering, and most deletions were in the subscriptions section.

By subscription I mean not only app/service subscriptions, but also RSS, instagram, youtube and telegram channels. Before I was subscribed to many personal Bear blogs, life-type telegram channels and so on. There was “useful” content also, but also – too much variety of topics. And I checked each subscription one by one and deleted about 30-40%, I think, depending on the source.

It was not the first time I’ve done it. At some point, I would miss this type of content and start to accumulate personal blogs again. I miss personal part of web, not just “content” part. And after that – boom, deletion again.

What about keeping the golden middle and not overstimulating yourself? Heh, maybe, but people are living creatures and sometimes people I subscribed to for useful content, changed their online presence and started to blog about personal stuff. Sometimes interesting personal content gets boring with time, because nothing changes. Sometimes I change. And eventually it became a flood of uninspiring content.

Of course, I curate subscriptions from time to time and make light adjustments. But entropy is real, and one day I’ll realize that spring cleaning is needed.

So that’s why I’m doing it and I’ll keep doing it. It’s similar to periodic rebuilding the system: different periods of time, different mood, preferences and energy level. Different attitude to digital life.
